Seattle
A drunk driving or
DUI charge in Washington State may result in substantial penalties
should you be convicted. Penalties range from jail time to license
suspensions and revocation. Conviction for DUI could cost you your
personal freedom and interfere with your ability to get to and from
work. Therefore it is important to have an experienced DUI attorney on
your side. The
lawyers of the Seattle DUI Attorneys have a reputation for
obtaining favorable outcomes in their DUI clients' cases.
DUI penalties in Washington State have both a criminal as well as a
civil aspect to them.
Civil Department of Licensing Proceedings
Being stopped for DUI (BAC level of 0.08 or higher) may result in
license suspensions ranging from 90 days to two years for those who have
been charged twice in seven years. If your license has been suspended or
revoked, you will be required to obtain SR-22 insurance coverage for
high-risk insurance, once your driving privileges are restored. Premiums
for this type of insurance tend to be much higher than for those not
required to have SR-22 insurance. You will be assessed a $150 reissue
fee for the return of your license, and may need to pass a driver's test
if your license was revoked.
Criminal Charges
Criminal DUI conviction (BAC level of 0.15 or higher) carries stiff
penalties and usually involves fines and jail time. Individuals
convicted of criminal DUI are required to have expensive vehicle
ignition interlock devices installed in their vehicles for a year or
longer. These devices require you to pass a breath test before your car
will start. At the very least, those charged with criminal DUI could
expect a 90-day license suspension. At worst, you could face
incarceration and lengthy revocation of your license.
